Woodpecker
A Year in the life of north American woodpeckers
Coming Soon!
Woodpecker: A Year in the Life of North American Woodpeckers is an extraordinary and dynamic photography book exploring all 41 species across North America. Woodpeckers' evolution has made them ecologically critical to forest health, serving as keystone species in various North American wooded habitats. They support a variety of other creatures, acting as catalysts for diversity in the places they inhabit.
Informed by field experience and extensive research, author and photographer Paul Bannick explores woodpeckers’ natural and cultural history. In breathtaking images, he captures woodpeckers’ charismatic behavior, colorful displays, and sensitive habitats. Bannick uses accessible, science-based text to delve into woodpecker courtship and nest selection in spring, nest life in summer, fledging and independence in autumn, and survival challenges in winter. Woodpecker compares behaviors across species and provides insight for conservation.
Sincere gratitude to:
